A modern-day superhighway built by the Byzantines in the 4th Century, to link the two main churches of Byzantine Jerusalem – the Holy Sepulcher and the Nea Church. It had a width of 41 ft. Lined with Roman columns and still preserving its grandeur, the Cardo gives those interested in city planning much to think about. Along the reconstructed part of the Cardo one can walk today, as did people some 1500 years ago.
