Daliyat el-Carmel, located on the slopes of Mt. Carmel is the largest Druze village of Israel. The Druze is a religion that split off from Islam in Egypt about 1,000 years ago and found primarily in Lebanon, Israel, and Syria. There are thought to be as many as 1 million Druze worldwide. They have no liturgy, no places of worship and no proselytizing activity. Interestingly, Druze is prominent in the Israel Defense Forces and in politics. It has been claimed that the Druze are actually descendents of Jethro (Shoaib for Muslims), the father-in-law of Biblical Moses. No wonder why the tomb of Jethro near Tiberias is the holiest site for Druze.
