Nahal Kesalon is a valley west to Jerusalem rich with pine trees. There is also a Moshav by the same name in the region. This part of Kesalon is mentioned in Bible as Chesalon! Chesalon is a place named as one of the landmarks on the west part of the north boundary of Judah on the side of Mount Jearim (Joshua 15:10). It is probably identified with the modern village of Kesla, on the western mountains of Judah. The Jewish National Fund (JNF) has planted forests in memory of communities, families and individuals who perished in the Holocaust in this valley.
Masreq
When the Jewish forces first occupied this site in1948, it appeared to them as a comb due to the abundance of pine trees and hence the name Masreq which means comb in Hebrew. This mountain still contains some ancient pine trees which once filled the terrain abundantly. Today, most of the pine trees in Israel are introduced, but Masreq is an exception where native pines still exist.
