The Carnivorous Plant Collection

Carnivorous or insectivorous plants derive their nutrients from trapping and consuming animals or insects. What we saw in the Utopia are the pitcher plants which trap their prey in a rolled leaf that contains a pool of digestive enzymes or bacteria. The most common was Nepenthes, popularly known as Tropical Pitcher Plants or Monkey Cups. It was my first experience to see so many of them hanging from the walls. There was a sales counter nearby and one of my friend bought Nepenthes for 175NIS (40$)….
